An excellent mid priced bearing, totally designed for skateboarding. Red's are based on the same technology as Bone's Swiss except they are mass produced in China to make them more afordable. Don't let this put you off though. The chinese are on it and alot of stuff manufacturd over there is done at a very hight standard.Red's are fast straight out of the box and get quicker with age. The outer shield of the casing can be removed for cleaning purposes, most people after a lot of use tend to run them with no shield on at all because bearings run way faster when there dryer, plus they make that sweet go faster sound. This is only recommended if your gonna be skating in the dry. Skating down a rainy pavement in good old British weather will kill any unshielded bearing. Giving them a good clean with a citrus cleaner or bones cream from time to time will do them the world of good. Check out the bones site, there's tons of info on there about their bearings, history and cleaning methods.ABEC 7 million PleaseABEC - Stands for Annular Bearing Engineering Committee. These dudes set up a comity to rate the tolerance of bearings. Which is basically the gap between two moving parts. (we're talking hair widths and less here) As this gap is so small many factors, such as smoothness of the rolling contact surfaces, ball precision, and material quality are obsolete. So if your a machine gunner in Afghanistan on the back of a snatch land rover, this may effect you. But if your a skateboarder and are crazy about ABEC size then burn your board and buy some rollerblades.
